Where are they now?
Brenda Zuk is needling her way to success...
Brenda Zuk's last name means beetle in Ukrainian, which is incorporated into a catchy name for her knitting business,"Needle Beetle".
Zuk started drafting her knitting patterns after receiving many comments on her designs. She decided to sell her eye-catching patterns through the Internet, similar to many other entrpreneurs. Her patterns are sold all over the world, with the bulk of them in the U.S. market.
Zuk's talents are reflected in the complicated knitting style she uses called Intarsia. In this method, up to 30 or 40 skeins of yarn are used to create intricate patterns. Zuk's inspiration comes from animals and nature, which are reflected in her patterns.
Zuk is also one of the first recipients of the FAA Scholar ship in 1985.
Her words of advice for students is to explore all possibilities after graduation, especially in the crafts. She would also like to see more hand embellishment or hand knitting courses offered at the School of Fashion.
