Finished measurements:

Neck Circumference 23”

Bottom Circumference 72”

Materials:

MC – Main Colour (dark hue), any handspun 100% 2 ply alpaca yarn (5.9oz/161gm approx. = 292 yards/267 metres)

CC – Contrast Colour (light hue), any handspun 100% 2 ply alpaca yarn (3.3oz/94gm approx. = 163 yards/149 metres)

One 4.5mm and one 5mm 40”/101.5cm circular knitting needles or size to obtain gauge

2 small vintage brooches, one darning needle

Gauge: 14.5 sts and 22 rows = 4"/10cm over pattern with 5mm needles

Special notes: This capelet may be knit in one colour instead of two,(9.2oz/255g approx. = 455 yards/416 metres would be required). To make the cape smaller or larger around the bust, decrease or increase by 11 sts when casting on.

Terms:

k - knit

k2tog - knit 2 stitches together

kf&b - knit into front, then back of stitch

p - purl

RS - right side

ssk - slip 2 stitches separately to right needle as if to knit. Knit these 2 stitches together by inserting left needle into them from left to right.

Instructions:

With CC and 4.5mm needle, cast on 101 sts.

Row 2 (RS): With MC, k.

Row 3: P1, k to last st, p1.

Change to 5mm needle.

BODY

Row 1: With MC, k1, *k2tog, k2, kf&b twice, k3, ssk, repeat from * to last st, k1.

Row 2: P.

Rows 3-4: Repeat Rows 1-2.

Row 5 (increase): K1, *k2tog, k1, kf&b 4 times, k2, ssk, repeat from * to last st, k1. 119 sts

Bind off all sts knitwise.

FRONT EDGES

With 4.5mm needle and CC, *pick up and k 3 sts for every 4 rows along right front edge, bind off knitwise, repeat from * for left front edge. Weave in all ends. Clasp front edges together at neck with vintage brooches.
